About VPNTest.org

VPNTest.org is an independent project that measures VPN services and publishes the results. It is funded by its readers and by affiliate links. It is not owned by any VPN provider and has no special arrangement with one.

Principles

These are the rules the project holds itself to. They are the reason the numbers are worth reading.

We measure; we don't rank.
There is no "best VPN" list here. People want different things from a VPN, so the same data should produce different winners for different uses. We publish the measurements and let you weigh them.
Every provider gets an equal link.
Every provider we test gets an affiliate link, and none is recommended over another. Recommending nobody removes the reason to shade the data towards whoever pays best.
We buy every subscription ourselves, anonymously, at the retail price.
The accounts we test are the same as the ones you would buy.
We never accept an account from a provider.
A provider that knew which account was ours could put it on better servers, keep it off crowded ones, or watch it — and we would have no way to tell from the inside.
We never log your IP address.
Not in our database, not in server logs, not in analytics — we don't run analytics. Tests that need your IP address show it to you in your own browser and then forget it.
We publish measurements, not company information.
We don't cover where a provider is incorporated, who owns it, or what its privacy policy says. Those are claims of a different kind, they go out of date quietly, and they are not what we are good at. The one provider claim we record is the location its own server list gives for the server we test, because that is what our location check is measured against.
The method is public, and the data will be too.
The methodology is published before any results, so it can be read and questioned first. The raw measurements will be published alongside the results.

How it is funded

Two sources: readers who choose to support the project, and affiliate links to the providers we test.

Affiliate disclosure: if you buy a subscription through one of our links, we may earn a commission. Every provider gets a link, the links are the same for all of them, and a commission never changes what we test or how we report it.

A provider is welcome to support the project like anyone else. That money is not earmarked, buys no influence over what is tested, and creates no obligation. There is no special arrangement of any kind with any provider.

Provider logos in the tables are there so you can recognise a provider at a glance. They are shown the same way for every provider, and show no endorsement.
